Terms of Use

Last updated: 2026-05-20

Welcome to InSpire Canada Math Contest (the “Site”). By accessing or using our Site, contests, services, and related products (collectively, the “Services”), you agree to these Terms of Use (the “Terms”). If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.

For how we collect, use, protect, retain, delete, and disclose personal information, please see our Privacy Policy.

If there is a conflict between these Terms and specific rules posted for a particular contest, the contest-specific rules will govern for that contest to the extent of any inconsistency.

1) Acceptance

These Terms form a binding agreement between you and InSpire Canada Math Contest, operated by InSpire Education Technology Inc. (“we”, “us”, or “our”).

You represent that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may only use the Services with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian, school, board, or authorized coordinator, as applicable. In that case, “you” also refers to the parent, guardian, school, board, or authorized representative who agrees to these Terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use of the Services.

2) Eligibility

You may use the Services only in compliance with all applicable laws and these Terms. Some Services, including specific contests or programs, may have additional eligibility rules, age limits, grade levels, geographic restrictions, timing requirements, or proctoring requirements published on their pages.

It is your responsibility, and where applicable your parent’s, guardian’s, school’s, board’s, or coordinator’s responsibility, to ensure that participation complies with the laws and rules of the place where the student is located and where the Services are accessed.

3) Accounts, Security, Deletion & Export

  • You must provide accurate, complete, and current information, such as student name, grade, school, city, province, country, parent/guardian contact information, and coordinator information where applicable.
  • You are responsible for keeping login credentials confidential and for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You must notify us promptly at support@math-contest.org of any suspected unauthorized use of your account or any security concern related to the Services.

Account deletion. Users do not currently delete their own accounts directly through a self-service button. A student, parent/guardian, educator, school coordinator, or authorized school/board contact may request account deletion by emailing support@math-contest.org. Before deleting an account, we may verify the requester’s identity and authority, especially where the account belongs to a minor or is connected to a school, board, or coordinator group.

Verified deletion requests are normally processed within 30 days, subject to any legal, accounting, security, contractual, contest-integrity, or audit obligations that require limited continued retention.

Data export. Users, parents/guardians, schools, boards, or authorized coordinators may request a copy of available account profile information, contest records, certificates, or related data by contacting support@math-contest.org. We may provide the information in a reasonable format, such as PDF or CSV, subject to identity and authority verification and privacy safeguards.

4) Permitted Use

You may access and use the Services for personal, educational, contest, school, board, or authorized coordinator purposes, in accordance with these Terms and any rules posted on relevant pages, such as exam rules, coordinator guides, contest instructions, or school/board arrangements.

You may not use the Services for any purpose that is unlawful, unauthorized, unfair, misleading, harmful, or prohibited by these Terms.

5) Payments, Refunds & Taxes

  • Prices and fees are shown at checkout or on the relevant contest or product page and may change from time to time.
  • Payments are processed by Stripe. By submitting payment details, you authorize us and Stripe to charge your selected payment method for all applicable fees and taxes.
  • We do not store full credit card numbers on our own systems.
  • Refunds: Except where a different refund policy is clearly stated at the time of purchase, all fees and charges are non-refundable once registration is completed and/or contest materials or account access have been provided, except to the extent a refund is required by applicable law.
  • You are responsible for any applicable taxes, duties, or similar charges arising from your purchases, except where we are required by law to collect and remit them.

6) Contests, Proctoring & Camera Use

Contest participation is subject to contest-specific rules, including eligibility, timing, proctoring, academic integrity, device, browser, and submission requirements. By registering for or taking part in a contest, you agree to comply with all applicable contest rules and instructions.

School-supervised and in-person contests. For contests administered in person or under the supervision of a school, board, education centre, approved coordinator, or qualified proctor, we do not collect video, image, or audio data through the platform for proctoring purposes.

Individually registered online students. Limited online proctoring may be used for students who register individually and complete the contest online outside a school-supervised or in-person setting. In those cases, proctoring is used only for identity verification, exam integrity, security review, and investigation of possible misconduct.

What may be collected during online proctoring. Depending on the contest settings and technical setup, online proctoring may collect limited information such as:

  • camera-based identity or environment checks;
  • still images or short webcam checks, where enabled;
  • browser-focus events, timestamps, attempt logs, and contest session logs;
  • basic device, browser, operating system, and IP address information;
  • flags generated by the system or by authorized review personnel.

We do not routinely collect audio for school-supervised or in-person contests. If audio or video collection is required for a specific individually registered online contest, this will be clearly disclosed in the contest instructions or consent process before the contest, and will be used only for exam integrity and security purposes.

Use and retention of proctoring data. Proctoring data is used only to verify identity, uphold exam integrity, investigate potential misconduct, support appeals or result review, maintain platform security, and comply with legal obligations. Unless a longer period is required for an active dispute, investigation, security review, legal obligation, or school/board requirement, online proctoring evidence is deleted within 90 days after the contest/result-review period.

Raw proctoring media is not retained for unrelated purposes. When proctoring evidence is no longer necessary, it is deleted. If non-identifying statistical or integrity information is retained, direct identifiers such as name, email address, account ID, user ID, IP address, and other account identifiers are removed or separated so the remaining information is no longer reasonably associated with an identifiable individual.

Personal information collected during contests and proctoring is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

7) User Content & License

“User Content” includes materials you submit or provide through the Services, such as answers, communications, feedback, files, or messages.

You retain ownership of your User Content. By submitting User Content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, process, and otherwise use your User Content only for the purposes of operating, maintaining, protecting, and improving the Services, administering contests, providing results and certificates, supporting customer service, maintaining security and academic integrity, and complying with legal obligations.

Where we use information for research, analytics, reporting, or improvement, we will use aggregated or de-identified information where appropriate.

You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights to submit your User Content, and that your User Content does not infringe any third-party rights, violate any law, or breach these Terms.

8) Prohibited Conduct

  • Cheating, sharing exam content during or after a contest, or attempting to gain an unfair advantage.
  • Impersonating any person or entity, or misrepresenting your identity, grade, school, location, coordinator status, or proctor status.
  • Disabling, bypassing, interfering with, or misrepresenting any proctoring, security, timing, identity, or exam-integrity process.
  • Reverse engineering, scraping, crawling, automated extraction, or attempting to access non-public areas of the Services.
  • Uploading or transmitting malware, illegal content, or content that is harassing, hateful, abusive, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable.
  • Circumventing or attempting to circumvent paywalls, access controls, registration controls, geographic restrictions, or contest rules.
  • Using the Services in any way that could disrupt, damage, impair, overload, or compromise the Services or another user’s access.

9) Intellectual Property

The Services, including all content, logos, graphics, contest questions, solutions, text, code, software, page designs, certificates, reports, and platform features, are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Except as expressly permitted by these Terms or by us in writing, you may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, publicly display, publicly perform, publish, sell, license, or create derivative works from any part of the Services.

Using the Services does not give you any ownership rights in the Services or any content, other than the limited right to use them in accordance with these Terms.

10) Third-party Services & Subprocessors

We use a limited number of third-party service providers to operate the Services. These providers may process personal information only as needed to provide services to us and not for their own unrelated purposes.

Our current key third-party service providers include:

Provider Purpose Information involved
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Toronto, Canada Cloud hosting for website, database, files, backups, logs, and platform operation Account data, contest registration data, contest records, uploaded files where applicable, technical logs
Stripe Payment processing Payment-related information. We do not store full credit card numbers on our own systems.

The platform uses WordPress and MasterStudy LMS in our own hosted environment. These software components operate within our Oracle-hosted platform and do not routinely receive independent disclosure of user personal information. If vendor support access is ever required, access will be limited to what is necessary and subject to confidentiality and security safeguards.

We do not sell student personal information. We are not currently using Cloudflare for the Services.

Third-party service providers and subcontractors that process personal information on our behalf are expected to maintain appropriate privacy and security safeguards that are equivalent to or stronger than our own safeguards, taking into account the nature of the service and information involved.

11) Data Storage, Security & Breach Response

Data storage. Primary application data for Ontario users is stored in Canada on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in the Toronto, Canada region. User data is stored in our cloud-hosted database and file system, not primarily on the user’s device, except for normal browser cookies/cache needed for login, session management, and website functionality.

Encryption. User data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Data stored on our Oracle-hosted infrastructure, including database data, files, and backups, is stored using encrypted cloud infrastructure. Account passwords are stored as hashed passwords and are not stored in plain text.

Security program. We do not currently hold a formal SOC 2, SOC 3, ISO 27001, FedRAMP, or CSA STAR certification. However, our security practices are aligned with recognized security principles and controls, including NIST Cybersecurity Framework principles, CIS Critical Security Controls, OWASP web application security practices, privacy-by-design, data minimization, role-based access, least-privilege administrative access, server-level access controls, software patching, logging, backups, and incident response procedures.

Breach response. We maintain a breach response protocol that includes identification, containment, investigation, notification, remediation, and documentation. Containment may include disabling affected accounts or features, rotating credentials or access keys, blocking suspicious traffic, taking affected systems or features offline if necessary, preserving logs, applying patches or configuration changes, and restoring from clean backups where appropriate.

If a confirmed or suspected security or privacy breach involving personal information occurs, we will notify affected users, parents/guardians, schools, boards, or authorized contacts directly by email where appropriate and as soon as reasonably possible after we have sufficient information to provide meaningful notice. Notifications may include the nature of the incident, types of information involved, steps taken to contain and remediate the issue, recommended steps for affected users, and contact information for follow-up.

12) Business Transfers

If InSpire Canada Math Contest or InSpire Education Technology Inc. is involved in a sale, merger, acquisition, restructuring, financing, transfer of assets, or similar business transaction, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

Any successor organization will be required to protect previously collected personal information using safeguards equivalent to or stronger than those described in these Terms and our Privacy Policy, and to use the information only for the purposes described in those documents, unless further notice or consent is obtained.

Where reasonably possible, users, parents/guardians, schools, boards, or authorized contacts will be notified by email before the transfer is completed. Where applicable, users or schools/boards may request deletion, opt out of non-essential transfer, or discontinue use before the transfer, subject to legal, accounting, contractual, security, or contest-integrity requirements.

13) Disclaimers

The Services are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties and conditions of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, quiet enjoyment, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Services, including contests, questions, scoring, rankings, certificates, or results, will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, accurate, error-free, or free of harmful components. We may correct errors in contest questions, scoring, certificates, or rankings and adjust results where appropriate.

We do not provide professional legal, financial, immigration, or educational consulting advice, and we do not guarantee any particular academic, admission, scholarship, employment, or other outcome as a result of participation in any contest or use of the Services.

14) Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will we, including our directors, officers, employees, agents, contractors, or affiliates, be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenues, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or related to your access to or use of, or inability to access or use, the Services.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Services or these Terms will be limited to the greater of: (a) the amount you paid to us for the specific contest or Service that gave rise to the claim during the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim; and (b) CAD $50.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or limit any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

15) Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless us and our directors, officers, employees, agents, contractors, and affiliates from and against any claims, demands, actions, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the Services; (b) your User Content; (c) your violation of these Terms; (d) your violation of contest rules; or (e) your violation of any rights of another person or of any applicable law or regulation.

16) Suspension & Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to all or part of the Services at any time, with or without notice, if we believe that you have violated these Terms, engaged in misconduct or academic dishonesty, posed a risk to other users or to the integrity, safety, or security of the Services, failed to pay applicable fees, or where we are required to do so for legal, operational, school/board, or security reasons.

Upon termination, your right to use the Services will cease immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination, including intellectual property rights, disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnity, data retention, security, business transfer, and governing law provisions, will continue to apply.

17) Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of laws principles. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Ontario, Canada, for any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services.

If you are a consumer residing outside Canada, you may also have certain mandatory rights under the laws of your country or region of residence, and nothing in these Terms is intended to limit those mandatory rights.

18) Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in the Services, legal requirements, security practices, contest operations, or business needs.

When we make material changes to these Terms, we will provide notice by email to affected users, parents/guardians, school coordinators, and/or school/board contacts where appropriate. We may also provide a prominent notice on the website or in the application.

For material changes that expand the collection, use, disclosure, or retention of student personal information, we will provide notice before the change becomes effective and obtain consent or school/board approval where required.

Updated Terms will include a new “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Services after the effective date of the updated Terms constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms, except where additional consent is required by law or by a school/board arrangement.
